The mission of housingANDclimate.org is to rise simultaneously to the challenges of housing affordability and climate change. Across America, families are confronting unprecedented housing markets — result of decades of declining new housing production — that have placed home ownership out of reach for more and more families. At the same time, climate change fueled by greenhouse gas emissions represents an existential crisis and calls for immediate action, including the adoption of “net zero” building code policies to reduce carbon fuel emissions from homes. Meeting the challenges of housing and climate at the same time will be hard. Much harder than focusing solely on one without regard to the other. However, housingANDclimate.org is committed to the rolling up of sleeves, to the dialog, to the bold vision, and to the development and implementation of building code policies and practices that can — and will — advance housing affordability AND stem climate change.
